Contrary to popular belief, liposuction should not be used for weight loss, but it can be beneficial to patients of healthy weight who would like to spot-treat difficult areas that do not respond to diet or exercise. Please schedule a consultation at our practice in Overland Park near Kansas City to learn whether liposuction is appropriate for you.
This procedure is performed through a small incision that is made in the treatment area. Dr. Quinn inserts a metal tube, called a cannula, into this incision and uses it to gently suck away the excess fat cells within this area of the body. Once the appropriate amount of fat has been removed, Dr. Quinn closes the incision site.
Liposuction patients face a relatively short recovery period compared to most plastic surgery patients, but it may take some time for them to see their final results. As the body adjusts to its new shape, the skin may at first appear loose. For most patients with normal skin elasticity, this is temporary – the skin tightens around the new, slimmer figure, and the results are completely natural-looking. Because the incision involved in liposuction is usually very short and discreetly placed, it is entirely possible that no one will ever know that you had cosmetic surgery at all.
