Liposuction is a surgical procedure that resculpts the body by removing localized areas of fat.
Procedure
- Through very small incisions, a tube connected to a suction device is placed under the skin and the excess fat is removed. Safe removal of large amounts of fat may require more than one procedure.
- May be used in areas of face, neck, chest, back, sides, waist, hips, buttocks, thighs and legs.
- It is performed under general anesthesia with return to home the same day.
Recovery
A compression garment is worn for up to six weeks to reduce the bruising and swelling that occurs during the first few weeks after surgery. Most patients are able to return to work about a week following surgery, sooner for patients undergoing small amounts of fat removal.
Results
Liposuction enhances body contour through the removal of localized fat deposits. It can slim your abdomen, hips and thighs, shape your calves and ankles, or eliminate a double chin. It can be preformed on several areas of the body at the same time, and can also be done in conjunction with other cosmetic surgery procedures.
The recountered body can still gain weight but usually not in the disproportionate bulges where was liposuction was performed. Those fat cells have been permanently removed. Even though your total weight may only change a little, the results can be remarkable.
