Dr. Christa Clark

Meet Dr. David Kaufman

The decision to embark on surgical enhancement is an intensely personal one. I believe it is very important that you are comfortable with your plastic surgeon and confident in his or her abilities. I would like to tell you a little about myself and my qualifications as a cosmetic surgeon.

Once you have chosen to undergo cosmetic surgery, choosing the right plastic surgeon becomes a matter of great importance. I am proud to say that I am a board-certified plastic surgeon, which means I have met stringent certification and training requirements that ensure my patients the very best results. Moreover, my diverse plastic surgery experience enables me to choose the best procedures and techniques to best suit each patient. If you are looking for a plastic surgeon in the Sacramento area, I encourage you to contact me.

Served His Country as a Navy Seal

Originally from Cleveland, Ohio, I attended the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, where I earned a bachelor of science degree in systems engineering. I graduated from the academy with distinction, the highest academic honor. Following graduation, I moved to Coronado, California, and reported to Basic Underwater Demolition School (BUDS), also known as Navy SEAL training. After graduating with Class 156, I was assigned to SEAL Team 5. As an active duty naval special warfare officer, I served four busy and exciting years, including duty in Operation Desert Storm.

From Harvard Medical School to Stanford Residency

I then attended Harvard Medical School, receiving my medical doctor degree in 1996. My surgical training in a combined general and plastic surgery residency was conducted at Stanford University Medical Center.

Following the completion of my residency, I served as the Interplast Jerome P. Webster Fellow. Interplast is a non-profit organization based in Mountain View, California, that provides plastic and reconstructive surgery to needy children and adults in the developing world. I have participated in over 20 surgical overseas missions and have performed operations on more than 500 patients in this capacity.

Since completing my residency and fellowship in plastic surgery, I have been in a very busy practice of both reconstructive and cosmetic surgery. I have had the honor of being the director of the Regional Burn Unit at Valley Medical Center and serving on the volunteer clinical faculty at Stanford University Medical Center. I am also proud to be a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.

In 2005, largely for family reasons, I moved my practice to the Sacramento area and have fallen in love with the community and the wonderful patients that I have had the privilege to treat.

My wife Kate (formerly Shallenberger), son Trevor, and I live in El Dorado Hills. Our outside interests include athletics, travel, and volunteer work.

Meet Dr. Christa Clark

My philosophy for patients considering cosmetic and reconstructive surgery is dedication to personal treatment. I offer a woman's unique perspective and creative expertise as I design procedures in line with the individual needs of each of my patients. I am interested in all types of plastic surgery--from a woman who desires breast reconstruction following mastectomy, to a young mother wishing to improve her figure after having children. With the appropriately selected procedure, plastic surgery may be a way to enhance self-esteem and bring about that confidence from within. It is my goal to help patients be all that that can be by safely delivering state of the art surgical techniques to ensure natural results.

Originally from Michigan, I attended the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, where I earned dual Bachelor of Arts degrees in both Economics and English Literature. I received my Doctor of Medicine Degree in 1999 with High Distinction from Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit, and graduated in the top ten of my class. My surgical training then transported me to California where I completed a combined general and plastic surgery residency at the prestigious Stanford University Medical Center, training with world-renowned plastic surgeons reconstructing devastating injuries.

I have always had a strong interest in giving back to those less fortunate. During my residency training, I traveled to Haiti, Guatemala, and Peru to perform reconstructive surgery on both children and adults. These humanitarian efforts provided complimentary care to those who suffered from facial and body deformities caused by birth and trauma related injuries. My experiences as a surgeon on these missions have been some of the most enriching of my life.

Following completion of my residency, I was chosen for advanced cosmetic fellowship training in San Francisco with plastic surgeon Dr. John Q. Owsley, a pioneer of cosmetic surgery and face-lifting techniques.

Licensed in California, I am board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. I'm also a member of the American Medical Association, American Medical Women's Association, and the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. However, just as important as my credentials is my ability to establish meaningful relationships with my patients. I treat my patients as I would want a member of my family to be treated and my friendly personality puts patients at ease during the consultation process. Selecting a surgeon is an important decision; my goal is to contribute my attention to detail and knowledge of the most sophisticated plastic surgery procedures available to bring out the beauty within you.

My husband James, daughter Ellen and I live in Sacramento where we enjoy the natural beauty of Northern California through traveling, hiking and outdoor activities.
